Delegated Proof of Stake

Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) is a twist on the PoS consensus that relies upon a group of delegates to validate blocks on behalf of all nodes in the network. It works using representatives, who generate blocks. Representatives are elected by stakeholders at a rate of one vote per share per witness. In a traditional PoS system, all owners have a random chance to become the winning block miner. This is wasteful since it requires all owners to run a node 24/7 if they wish to have a shot at the mining reward. Further, it requires the implementation of fault tolerance methods for users who don’t validate their blocks. DPoS solves this by allowing users to elect a representative to run a node for them, such that they themselves don’t have to run a node 24/7 making it even more energy-efficient than PoS.
