Immutability and Verifiability

There are many ways to purchase carbon credits on exchanges. However, these exchanges often do not offer any way for buyers and sellers to verify whether the offsets were actually purchased in order to reduce an organization's emissions. This lack of verification makes it difficult for buyers to trust sellers. In our current system, we have no way of knowing if we're purchasing offsets from legitimate organizations or simply paying someone else's inflated price tag.

A digital ledger records information in a permanent and transparent way. It's essentially an append-only database that everyone has access to, but no one can change without consensus.

We need a truly decentralized system if we want to ensure that every transaction on our platform is legitimate and honest so that buyers can feel confident in their purchase decisions while sellers know they're getting paid accurately for their offsets.
